Bird Deterrent and Proofing

Killer Instinct offer a range of bird spiking and netting solutions

Bird Spikes

Bird Spikes are a versatile range of precision engineered deterrents designed to provide effective and humane control of problem urban birds. The upward pointing ‘spikes’ act as a physical barrier to the birds without hurting them, they simply deter them from landing on the ledges. Bird Spikes can be used to protect areas against pigeons in a wide variety of situations, from day time perching to night roosting sites and from the narrowest to the widest of building ledges, pipes and even roof apex’s.

Bird Wire

Bird wire systems have been used for many years to keep pigeons and gulls off building ledges, parapets, signs, beams, pipes, gutters and roof ridges. The systems are cost effective, very versatile and totally humane used as a bird deterrent. They are also very discreet when installed. By attaching thin stainless steel wires tensioned with springs just above where the birds normally rest it deters all but the most persistent birds from landing.

Bird Netting

Killer Instincts bird netting systems are one of the most effective and long lasting ways of bird proofing buildings against all urban bird species. They are particularly effective for large open areas such as roofs, loading bays and over building facades, as one net can be used to protect many perching places. Bird netting we use is constructed from high density UV stabilised knotted 12/6 polyethylene. This type of net is chemically inert and rot proof in addition to offering a high resistance to a wide range of climatic & environmental conditions. The nets range from 19mm gauge denying the smallest pest birds, rising to 50mm to deny feral pigeons and 75mm gauge is used against seagulls. You have a choice of black, stone or translucent as standard.

Cleaning and Decontamination

Birds can generate large amounts of droppings known as guano on external areas of buildings and inside roof spaces if not addressed quickly. There are several serious health and safety concerns related to bird droppings, Diseases that will transmit to humans by inhaling the contaminated dust such as ornithosis. Organisms feeding and/or growing in birds nests i.e Flies, Lice, Fleas, Ticks & Mites but alsosome strains of fungi that can also cause severe and sometimes fatal lung tissue infections. Removing nesting material from confined spaces, clearing of fouling and nesting material and bird carcasses is unpleasant work and is often carried out at height such as loft spaces, which can pose its own set of health and safety problems. All in all, dont attempt this kind of work yourself, contact our team and we’ll get mucky for you!

Bird Free Gel

Bird Free does not kill or trap birds. Bird Free is formulated so that birds won’t go near it as they see reflected ultraviolet light so it appears to them as fire. Visual deterrence is further reinforced by the selected food ingredients contained in Bird Free, which are repulsive to a bird’s sense of smell. The visual effect, whereby birds see Bird Free as fire, is immediately evident following installation. Birds attempting to return to a habitat they have previously frequented will be observed veering off and landing elsewhere when they see the dishes of Bird Free in place. Please ask us for details. They thrive in our towns and cities by adapting to the urban environment, making use of seemingly inhospitable areas of tall buildings. These buildings provide them with the smallest amount of cover (similar to the cliffs and coastal nesting areas used by their ancestors).

Egg Oiling

Egg oiling is an extremely effective method of non-lethal and humane gull control. Egg oiling involves using a liquid paraffin BP to coat the shell of the egg in order to stop the embryo from developing, when correctly used, we have found this to be 100% effective some gull species can become a serious problem when they choose to nest on business premises. They can deter potential customers and cause extensive damage to the property itself.
